Although having suffered sexual and domestic abuse at the hands of her 30 year old husband, 8 year old, Nojoud Nasser was too young to seek a divorce in a Yemeni court. However, when court judge Muhammed Al-Qathi heard her complaint he thankfully put aside his 'Islamic values' and ordered the arrests of both her father and husband.“My father beat me and told me that I must marry this man, and if I did not, I would be raped and no law and no sheikh in this country would help me. I refused but I couldn’t stop the marriage. I asked and begged my mother, father, and aunt to help me to get divorced. They answered, ‘We can do nothing. If you want you can go to court by yourself.’ So this is what I have done.”
Item number 15 in Yemeni civil law reads that “no girl or boy can get married before the age of 15." However, this item was amended in 1998 so parents could make a contract of marriage between their children even if they are under the age of 15. But the husband cannot be intimate with her until she is ready or mature. “This law is highly dangerous because it brings an end to a young girl’s happiness and future fruitful life."

Reminds me of the song 'islam's not for me'
Brave kid. smart too. I guess being abused in the Islamic style either forces you to lose your mind or grow up fast.
I was going to say, 'What kind of person gets married and rapes an 8-year-old girl? And what kind of people not only refuse to condemn it, but actively encourage it?' But really, they're just following the example set by that nasty son of a bitch Muhammed, and so are just being good Muslims by this abhorrent, immoral behaviour.
I hate to be pessimistic, but I think the chances of this kid not being 'honour' killed are fairly slight.
Where are "save the children"hotshots when they're needed.
Hats off to the judge at least there was someone around whose mind was'nt totally poisoned.
I wish to note that this courageous child's marriage has been officially annulled. Hopefully the authorities will keep her safe.
Yemen is the shite hole that has recently legally approved female circumcision.
This horrific and barbaric practice kills young girls with infections. Is done without anaesthetic and makes childbirth and intercourse painful and horrible.
If this is Allah's will he can go and FU**K himself.
Leslie McFall has an interesting way to deal with the so-called exception clause in Matthew 19:9 that some hold allows for divorce and remarriage in the case of marriage unfaithfulness.
He has written a 43 page paper that reviews the changes in the Greek made by Erasmus that effect the way Matthew 19:9 has been translated. I reviewed McFall's paper at Except For Fornication Clause of Matthew 19:9. I would love to hear some feedback on this position.
I also have list of good conservative articles on the subject of Divorce and Remarriage.
